Documentation for SOPALE

SOPALE is a finite-element computer code for the computation of visco-plastic creeping flows with applications to tectonics.

Introduction and Concepts

• SOPALE Overview - a summary article written by Philippe Fullsack, explaining the methods, limitations, and history of the SOPALE software. Recommended as a starting point for learning about SOPALE.
• "An arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation for creeping flows and its application in tectonic models" - an article written by Philippe Fullsack and published in Geophys. J. Int. (1995). sopale_nested

sopale_nested is an extension of SOPALE which will do a higher resolution calculation in a sub-region of the main Eulerian grid. It (optionally) launches two copies of the code, which communicate using MPI.
